Facelift Surgery in Washington, D.C.
Schedule Your ConsultationFirm, smooth skin is a key element of an attractive, youthful face. When we age, our skin becomes weak and sags.
Excess skin and deep wrinkles can create a fatigued, unpleasant appearance. Facelift surgery provides elegant contours and a youthful complexion by eliminating unwanted skin and improving the appearance of wrinkles.
Why Is a Facelift Done?
Smooths Fine Lines & Wrinkles
As you age, your collagen production diminishes, causing you to develop wrinkles and fine lines. These creases commonly occur under the eyes and around the mouth and nose. Wrinkles that age your appearance can be eliminated through facelift surgery as the skin is smoothed and trimmed.
Tightens Sagging Tissues
Loose tissues that have begun to droop can cause you to look worn and constantly tired. A facelift tightens sagging tissues and trims away the excess for form-fitting, beautiful facial contours. A firm facial appearance can help you look well-rested and give you a youthful glow.
Eliminates Jowls & a Double Chin
Skin and fat accumulations along the jawline and under the chin can create jowls and the appearance of a double chin. A facelift removes skin and fat from around the chin and jawline to restore a slimmer facial appearance and achieve a better definition between the face and neck.
Restores a More Youthful Appearance
An aged appearance can dramatically affect your confidence and others’ confidence in you. Restoring tight, firm skin can return your youthful appearance, and looking younger can help you feel younger. Gaining confidence in your appearance may allow you to be more outgoing, which can impact other areas of your life.
Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell consider your consultation crucial and spend the time needed to fully understand your concerns and expectations as well as your candidacy for the procedure. After meeting with one of our dedicated surgeons, you can expect to be provided with a treatment plan that is tailored to meet your unique needs and goals.
(202) 966-9590Non-surgical Facelift Option
A non-surgical liquid facelift allows patients to rejuvenate their facial appearance without a surgical facelift. This injectable technique restores facial volume, smooths wrinkles, and offers some lift. While a filler facelift is ideal for some patients, it cannot match the results achieved with facelift surgery and is a temporary solution. Injectable fillers tend to wear off within a year to a year and a half.
What Are My Facelift Options?
Traditional Facelift
A full facelift tightens the midface and lower face, mainly focusing on jowling and a sagging neck. During a traditional facelift, several small incisions are used to remove excess skin, tighten and lift underlying tissues, replace fat, and redrape skin. Dr. Davison and Dr. Pinell are very strategic in their techniques to ensure that your results look natural and not overdone.
SMAS Facelift
The SMAS facelift is a full facelift that involves tightening the deeper layers of facial tissues. This technique is particularly beneficial when there is significant skin laxity.
Deep Plane Facelift
The deep plane facelift goes one step further to address the skin, tissues, and underlying facial muscles. Unlike the SMAS facelift, which tends to separate the skin from the underlying tissues before tightening, a deep plane facelift lifts the skin, muscles, and tissues together. Our surgeons usually recommend this technique to patients with damaged skin with poor blood supply.
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift, also known as a quick facelift or S-lift, is ideal for patients who want a subtle correction. These patients are starting to notice the effects of facial aging; however, they are not ready for a full facelift. Mini facelift patients are usually younger and want to address slight aging in the lower face and neck. This involves a shorter recovery period.
Facelift With a Neck Lift
Many facelift patients choose to extend their facial rejuvenation to include the neck. This maintains harmony and balance between the features, which results in a more natural-looking transformation. A neck lift is performed to tighten sagging skin and tissues on the neck. This can include minimizing vertical banding and eliminating the presence of a double chin. Neck liposuction may be required when there is extensive submental fullness.
How Long Does It Take to Recover From a Facelift?
You will experience bruising, redness, and swelling immediately after your procedure, and your face may feel tight and uncomfortable. The discomfort should last only two to three days.
During the first week of your recovery, you must keep your head upright at all times. Avoid strenuous physical activities for the first four to six weeks, and resume your normal routine only after you have your doctor clears you.

What Happens After a Facelift?
Is a Facelift Painful?
Because facelift surgery is performed under anesthesia, patients will not feel any pain during or initially after the surgery; however, there is mild to moderate discomfort the first several days following your procedure. Oral medication is prescribed to control any associated pain. Most patients find that the discomfort subsides after three days and that the facelift recovery is very manageable.
Are There Scars After a Facelift?
The incisions used for facelift surgery are discreetly placed in the hairline to mask any possible scarring that may result from your surgery. Any visible scarring is minimal and should fade over time.

How much is a facelift in Washington, D.C.?
Facelift cost in Washington, D.C., varies from patient to patient depending on the type of facelift performed and the extent of that facelift. Additional cost factors include anesthesia fees, facility fees, and surgeon fees. You will be given an accurate price estimate after your facelift consultation at Davinci Plastic Surgery.
Because this is an elective procedure, facelift surgery is not covered by insurance. Davinci Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer financing through CareCredit®.
Am I a candidate for a facelift?
There is no ideal age for a facelift since every person responds differently to the aging process and environmental damage. Candidates for facelift surgery are healthy adults looking to restore a more youthful appearance by addressing loose skin and tissues in the lower two-thirds of the face. These patients should not smoke and have realistic expectations for their results.
Facelift surgery does not address the upper third of the face, and additional procedures may be necessary.
How long does a facelift take to perform?
Typically, the procedure takes between two to five hours. A facelift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. The patient may stay at the facility for a few hours of supervision before being released to go home. Patients will need a ride home, and it is recommended that they have someone stay with them for a few days.
Does a facelift restore facial volume?
A facelift lifts and tightens sagging tissues while trimming loose, excess skin. This surgery does not restore facial volume. Since the loss of facial fullness is one of the primary causes of noticeable facial aging, many patients undergo additional surgery or non-surgical procedures, including dermal filler injections, fat grafting, or facial implants.
Can a facelift address the lines around my brow and eyes?
No, a facelift focuses on the lower portion of the face, including the jawline and neck. If you want to improve the top portion of your face, you may need a brow lift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Discuss these options with Dr. Davison or Dr. Pinell during your facelift consultation.
What are the risks associated with a facelift?
All surgical procedures hold some risk. When it comes to a facelift, some of the potential risks include:
- Anesthesia complications
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Scarring
- Facial nerve injury
- Numbness
- Fluid accumulation in the face
- Unsatisfactory results
To reduce these risks, always schedule your facelift with a board-certified plastic surgeon. Additionally, note that your doctor will review your current health condition and medical records during the consultation. If the doctor believes you are at high risk for complications, they will not approve you for the procedure.
If you have specific concerns about facelift risks, you can ask your doctor to address these concerns during the consultation.
When can I return to work after a facelift?
Most patients can return to work between 10 to 14 days post-procedure.
How long does a facelift last?
A facelift can give your face and neck a younger appearance. With time, the natural aging process and gravity will undo some of your facelift results. When this happens, you can consider a revision procedure.
You can extend the longevity of your facelift results with a proper skincare routine and limiting sun exposure.
Can I get the same results with a non-surgical facelift?
There are non-surgical facelift treatments available on the market. These treatments are great and offer fantastic results, but nothing can beat surgery. Of course, if you are not quite ready to commit to plastic surgery, non-surgical treatments are a great place to start.
