Dr. Pinell is a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Washington, D.C., who practices aesthetic surgery of the face, breasts, and body, as well as complex reconstruction following surgery to treat skin, breast, and other cancers. A native of Potomac, Maryland, Dr. Pinell is passionate about serving the DMV community.
About Dr. Pinell
Dr. Pinell has a longstanding record of academic achievement and graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Economics. While working in health policy research, her aspiration to become a physician became clear, and she moved to Atlanta to complete medical school at Emory University. Early in her medical education, she was taught by some preeminent leaders in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and elected to stay at Emory for General Surgery residency and a subsequent fellowship in Plastic Surgery.
Since returning to Washington D.C., Dr. Pinell has developed a busy practice consisting of breast and other cancer-related reconstruction, cosmetic surgery of the breast and body, and non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures. When not in the operating room, Dr. Pinell enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three young children.

Breast Reconstruction
Dr. Pinell is passionate about breast reconstruction, which she believes is an important part of many women’s physical and emotional recovery from breast cancer.
She employs various techniques that utilize a woman’s own tissues to recreate the breast, as well as novel approaches to breast reconstruction using implants, such as the prepectoral (above the pectoral muscle) technique. For women who are candidates for and elect to undergo breast conservation, Dr. Pinell employs a wide variety of oncoplastic techniques that minimize distortion of the breast following lumpectomy.
Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Breast enhancement surgery can have a significant impact on a woman’s figure and often, her self-image. For some women, breast augmentation with implants or fat transfer achieves a long-desired look. For others, breast reduction surgery delivers not only relief of neck and back pain related to heavy breasts, but also a prettier shape and better balance with the rest of their body. Many women experience a change in breast size or shape following pregnancy and nursing, weight fluctuations, or just age. Dr. Pinell crafts a plan tailored to each patient to achieve her goals and give her a beautiful result.

A priority in post-operative patient care is the use of pain medications that adequately address discomfort but also minimize unwanted side effects. While each pain regimen is tailored to the patient, the use of nerve blocks (such as long-acting EXPAREL® injections) and non-narcotic pain medicines are usually very effective and safe.

Though she grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, Dr. Pinell’s family is originally from Bolivia, where she spent many memorable summers during her childhood. More recently, she seized the opportunity to travel home and use her plastic surgery skills to care for underserved Bolivian children with cleft lip and palate deformities. She has participated in three cleft mission trips to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and hopes to continue this incredibly gratifying commitment.
